Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on the end of the week

An individual who spiked sweets with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two children aged between nine and ten.

The accused was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepson had worries about the situation, for good reason.

"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated items including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his family member notified the police about his concerns.

She explained the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that stage," she added.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member contacted the authorities again.

She said the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
